1. Ensure the scene is safe Always check your surroundings before assisting. Your safety comes first.
2. Call for help when needed For serious injuries, difficulty breathing, or unresponsiveness, activate emergency services immediately. Call 911.
3. Control bleeding effectively Apply firm, direct pressure with clean gauze or cloth. Add layers if needed—never remove the first one.
4. Treat minor wounds properly Rinse with clean water, apply light pressure if needed, and cover with a sterile bandage.
5. Cool burns safely Use cool, running water for several minutes. Avoid oils, butter, or home remedies.
6. Monitor ABCs Check Airway, Breathing, and Circulation for anyone who is unconscious or severely injured.
7. Keep a stocked first aid kit Include bandages, gloves, antiseptic wipes, tape, pain relievers, and cold packs. Make it easy to access at home, work, and on the go.
8. Contact Poison Control for ingestion emergencies If someone swallows a harmful substance, call 1‑800‑222‑1222 for immediate guidance.
